7 Reasons to visit Deals Gap in the Fall

Fall is here, and at Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort, this is a great time of year. The air is cool, the scenery is stunning and traffic is winding down. It’s the perfect time of year to plan a trip to the Smoky Mountains and enjoy the thrilling 318 curves The Dragon has to offer, whether it’s a week-long vacation, weekend getaway or even just a day trip. While summer is a popular season to visit us, there’s a lot to love about fall.

1. Beautiful, Mild Weather

In the fall, the mountain air is usaully a little crisp in the mornings, but by afternoon, you’ll be enjoying warmer temperatures—without having to sweat it out. In early to mid-October, average lows are around 50 degrees and average highs around 70 degrees. If you’re looking to plan a rain-free trip, October is a good month to shoot for as it’s the driest month of the year in the Smoky Mountains.

2. Stunning Fall Foliage

Mid-October through early November is peak fall foliage season in the Smoky Mountains, creating gorgeous scenery as the mountains turn shades of yellow, orange, red and brown. During the fall, you won’t want to miss the views at the scenic Overlook along the Dragon, or the panoramic views on the Cherohala Skyway or Foothills Parkway.

3. Roads Are Less Crowded

With summer vacation over and school back in session, the roads near Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort are less busy than in the peak summer season. This means less traffic to navigate while enjoying the fall foliage and views. While it can still be busy on weekends, weekdays, mornings and evenings are normally peaceful and serene times to ride in the fall.

4. Fire Pit Action

Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort has an enormous fire pit by our motel rooms. On evenings in the fall, visitors can enjoy the fresh, fall air while staying warm around a fire. It’s a great place to meet new people—some who are visiting from all over the world. There are grills around the fire pit for barbequeing, and the fire pit is a great place to roast hot dogs or marshmallows.

5. Motel Rooms Open Up

During the warm weather season, especially during summer, many people plan their vacations and our motel books up quickly. If you weren’t able to get a room during the summer season, it’s more likely you can book one in October. Contact Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort to find out availability.

6. Less Likely to Wait in Lines

Whether you’re visiting Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort, or any of the areas other restaurants or attractions, it’s less likely that you’ll have to wait in line to pay for gas or order meals during October.

7. It’s the Last Chance Before Cold Weather Hits

Come November, temperatures will begin to drop, especially in the mountains at higher elevations. While some motorcyclists have heated apparel and don’t mind the cold, others may find winter temperatures uncomfortable on rides. Also, in the mountains, the winter often brings ice and snow, especially December through February. Fall is a good opportunity to get your riding, or driving, in before winter is here.
