Call Brad at Smoky Mountain HD 865-977-1669, he rides his Buel here alot. As far as pointers go, ride your owne ride, let the faster ones pass and do not push the limits of your bike. That in mind you will have a great time. I also talked to Clint at HD, check out their web site they all kind of events going on.

Just returned from my first trip to The Gap on my 1995 Buell S2 Thunderbolt.

The only advice I could offer would be to make the effort to read an article called "The Pace"
Click Here (http://www.christiansportbike.com/thepace.cgi)

You will be glad you did!

Brother, I high-sided my brand-new 1977 (OK, I'm old) Yamaha RD400 at a traffic light the very next day after I drove it home off the showroom floor (trying to beat the yellow light) then wrecked it again in a curve (in my subdivision near my house) going way too fast for my experience level;
went through the gate of a chain link fence but that just slowed me down; it was the tree that stopped me.

Years later, I read this article called "The Pace" :cool:
It has really helped me enjoy riding more than anything else I have read.
I wish everyone could/would read it!

Y'all are gonna love Deals Gap, the Cherahola Skyway and Hwy 28 !!!

Stay safe and have a great time!

Best regards,

Hey Buell2004, have you ever riden AL state HWY 65 east of Huntsville? I stumbled across it by accident last May and thought it was a great road.

I have not riden that , nor have a heard of it.......but i will look it up. :)

we just got back fromm our trip to the dragon . We really enjoyed it . Rode up and back the dragon two times , along with the foot hills pkwy. We were exhausted by the end of the day . About 300 miles on our bikes , all over that place. Some of the traffic was bad at times but had fun for the most part. :)

If you've done 65 thru AL, try 331 too. Recalling from memory now... it runs south of the capital city (bad memory) and just after the switch of 85 to 65 is the exit. It's a local road so you get to go thru lots of small towns (no traffic problems) but the road is beautiful, probly totalling repaved by now. The scenery it breath-taking. And your gain of awareness of the cultural differences in the area is interesting too. Watch out for love bugs in the fall months. We were down in the fall soon after the hurricane and there were lots of tarps on lots of houses and shacks. Montgomery is the capital of AL--I just remembered.

I have not done 331 yet. May give it a try on my return from the Gap this year.

Buell2004: You really need to try 65. Look at it on a map. It's a perfect Sunday ride for you. Saw quite a few more bikes when I rode it.
