Can anyone tell me the road conditions on wayah bald rd (ball rd) from franklin to hwy 19/74? Is there gravel, potholes, perfect blacktop or what? Is this a good alternative to riding hwy 28 in that area? Thanks.

SR 1310 from Franklin to near Topton. Couple of years since been there. Paved, typical NC tertiary road, cobby, patchy, gravelly at many apexes. On a "bad road bike" with suspension & semi-offroad tires - v nice. sport bike - slow down.

Very scenic & nothing like pavement quality of 28, IMO.

I was just there this past week and it's about the same as described above. There was gravel in many corners so you have to be careful, but it's a good ride still. I didn't come across any potholes or bad pavement, just a little gravel in some of the corners.
