This was the my third time to Deal's Gap. I brought my Dad for his first time. He loved the roads (28, Cherohala, Blue Ridge, and the Dragon), and he loved to just sit by the room and watch the bikes go by. It was great getting the Motel Apartment, easy to make our own food and relax. The Staff was awesome, very helpful with our questions.
The interesting thing I noticed during my trip was that there are generally more cruiser style bikes at the Dragon then sport bikes. And unfortunately most of the accidents I saw involved a cruiser. So its not always people on sport bikes racing through the Dragon.
The locals were a great help for riding tips and for following their lines. Thanks to The Preacher, Ben, Casey, Chris, and anyone else I followed through the Dragon. With your help I was able to drag my knee for the first time. :-)
As for the police, I only saw cop cars when they were responding to an accident or situation. The only police car I saw patrolling was at the beginning of the Cherohala (unmarked) but he didn't look twice.
I will definitely be planning another trip back, hopefully sooner then later!
