Well I had a great time there on Tuesday May 15th! The weather was perfect and all the riders were friendly! I let a bunch of guys go by me that were faster and got a nice thank you wave!
Have to say sorry to one rider though. I was in a series of quick turns and was taking my time doing them and didn't notice him come up behind me. He gave a couple quick toots on the horn, in a polite way, and I let him by. So if he reads this I was the guy on the cruiser with the eagles painted on the tank sorry man I was focused on the road and didn't see you come up behind me!!
The people in the store were great too. Bought some shirts... only to find out when I got home that a small was in the medium stack:( so I ordered another one from the store.:D
Now I guess I have to come back! Man I forgot how much I loved Tennessee! That was my first time back in the state since 1989 when I was stationed in Millington while in the Navy.
I was there that day also. I was riding a 06 zx-6rr. You probably seen me at some point. My bike had the most unusual paint job out of all the bikes I seen that day. It changes colors from copper to a candy apple green. Any ways see you another time maybe.

I don't know. I was there pretty early in the morning and only made the one pass. I left and went and cruised the skyway the rest of the day. There were probably only a couple dozen bikes there. I bet I was in and out by 10:30AM. But I am already concidering a plan to come back next year!
I think next time were down there we are going to check out the skyway etc. Yea I didnt make it untill 12:00 that day so you didnt see me lol. Ahh maybe next time! OH yeah.........I dont think I could wait until next year! :D

The skyway has some pretty good twists to it, but in my opinion its more scenery than road to ride. Of course the blueridge parkway has good roads and good scenery. Heck I found myself really getting into that road. A lot of switch backs, but not so tight that I could have a little fun on my cruiser.

We drove the dragon by car last time and wow thoes little coopers were flying by. The best time I had was around the fire pit chating with everyone. Love that I hope it's just as good this time
We'll see this Friday

I believe just stay on 129 and it will turn into the skyway. Just remember to ride your ride on the dragon and you'll be fine. If you see faster riders coming up on you just scoot over near the white line and hold your line and wave them by if its safe. But don't put yourself at risk to wave them by.
If you ask at the Deals Gap store I am sure you'll get great directions to ride the sky way. Go here

Pat, glad you like TN roads.
The passing here is maybe a bit different than back wherever. Just ride your ride, be smooth & predictable & the fastfolks can take care of both you & themselves. The horn toot is not about "move over". It is just insurance policy to double check that you know where I am and am on my way around & past. It is not at all an irritated toot but rather sort of like sonar feedback...
Deal is - ride your ride - I'll ride mine - we'll share & be respectful - downhome hillbilly way...

I didnt take the horn toot as an irritant. I took it as a polite I want to get by you. I had no problem with it. When I am in a corner I will use the whole corner as best I can to enjoy it and take it with a little speed and lean, but not get too agressive. And like you said the horn toot did let me know someone was around. If he had just flew by me on my outside without me knowing he was there it could have startled me and caused me to drift wide and possible into him. I was very happy to let the faster guys go. Didn't want to cause them or me any kind of grief. Were you the guy was apologizing to?

No, not there on 15th. There often, however, & for two greyheads-two-up we do maybe more than our fair share of passing...
I just like to take the opportunity when it arises to perhaps help others & visitors understand the old, old, very long standing tradition here of "pass & let pass" and how it works & that it's about "share & share alike" & everyone working together to keep the gap road safe, civil & fun for all speeds & skills, & no apologies required...

Well, I just got home it's May 29 and this was the first time I got to ride the dragon on my bike how exhilarating. By my third try I was doing better not like one of those rockets though. WOW talk about rush.:) Met some really great people again. Love that. can't wait to come back
