Need Vacation Help!

Ok. I live near Ashland Ohio and its in the middle northern part of the state. Between Cleveland and Columbus. A little closer to Cleveland than Columbus. I am planning a 5 to 7 day vacation ride.

Sometime at the end of May I am making my first trip to Deals Gap. Got all that covered. But then I am going to take 2 days to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive and end up in Winchester, VA. Its this point I am having a hard time deciding where to go next.

I was planning on back tracking to WV and seeing the New River Gorge Bridge and then back home, but now I am second guessing that. Also this is one of those things I could do in 1 day if I choose to. Since I will almost be in PA and can just continue north some and then head back west toward home.


I am leaving on a Monday morning to start my vacation to try and avoid tourists and as much traffic as possible. But I will end up into the Memorial day weekend if I stay as planned. And mainly I am planning it this way so I only have to use 2 days of vacation instead of 3. Cheap aren't I? LOL And thanks in advance!!!

Two days is kind of rushing it to get in the whole Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline drive. No doubt you could do it in two days, but I really think that would be rushing it.

A very excellent way to come home from the parkway is to take US250. I think US250 almost takes you straight to Ashland. 250 intersects the point where Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway meet. It is a spectacular ride, but it is a difficult ride. I don't remember for sure how far it was to my home near Youngstown, but it was a lot of two lane for one day. I know it was about midnight when I got home starting from the Skyland resort. It really was a very, very excellent route.

Actually 250 is 30 feet away from me now...LOL I did take a trip on 250 out of Richmond Va all the way here 14 years ago, but that was in a car.

I live in Mansfield and a small group of us is going down around the same time. We're leaving either Fri evening(18th) or Sat morning. Gonna try to catch the Dragon during the week(less traffic). There's a motorcycle museum in Maggie Valley, Bridal Falls, is in the area also. We're heading back north Fri(25th) and going over to Springfield Ill. for the Flat track races Sat. and Sun. then heading back home Mon. morning.

yeah i will be on the dragon on a tuesday myself. Right now I am looking to leave here 21st and be there that night. but not set in stone yet....

dont forget about the AMA hall of fame in pickerington ohio.
