An old service buddy introduced the dragon to me last year, and I have been unable to think about anything else since.

We are heading back on March 9th for the weekend. He is driving up from Huntsville while a friend and I will be heading in from Roanoke. My friend who is coming down from the Roanoke area with me is a new rider so I expect this to be a real adventure for him.

We all have radios and will most likely be running channel 1.

See you there!
:D

I'll be up Saturday also with hopefully 2 friends. Look for a red/black CBR1000 with 'Charlie' on my leathers. Medium fast pace since I've memorized the road.

I was on my 06 maroon FZ1 instead. Was your friend's name Newlin by chance? He was there for the weekend on an F2. I was there with a maroon 03 Concours. It was another fantastic trip for me.

So you know Scott Newlin?! Small world! We pulled up to the resort and he kicked you in the back of the leg after our 2nd run. He pointed you out to me when we went in to eat and said you were a friend of his. Scott and I were in the same squadron together years ago and still hang out when we can. The Gap is a half way point for us to meet up and burn off some steam.

This trip I brought a friend down for his first trip on the Dragon. He got bit…twice. Managed to chew up all of his plastic, a helmet, a jacket and a whole lot of pride. He was ready to sell the bike right there, but now he has decided to run with the bad plastic so he can practice some more.

Scott and I are planning another run the 2nd week of May.

I'll try to arrange to be there. I usually go up and back in one day on a trailer. I'll be on the CBR1000 next time so I'll be watching for highsides. Mounting H2 M2 combo today.

My next trip I hope to stay 2-3 days. The last trip we rented a 3 bedroom cabin in Townsend. By my clock we were 31 miles from the dragon by way of the foothill parkway, a fun ride as well. Also a good trip to scuff in the new tires. I would highly recommend staying there. In full disclosure I have never stayed at the resort as of yet, but hope to one day.

Staying in Townsend afforded some benefit. We were able to eat some Mexican food in Gatlinburg after a day of ridding. I did not need to navigate the Gap towing a trailer posing a risk to other riders. At the end of the day we had a big cabin with a fireplace to sit around in and tell lies for the rest of the night.

Everybody has their “thing”, and a cabin just happens to be mine.

When we commit to some dates and times I’ll start another thread. Maybe we can meet this time and kick back some Mexican and beer one night. :D

Sounds good. I was just in the area taking my wife to Gatlinburg for the first time. She enjoyed it but hated the curves. Figures. Did Scott mention the video we made in October that had over 13,000 hits on youtube.com? It was off the back of my FZ1 at a following group of a 600 GSXR and an R1 at a decent pace. You just scroll down to 'tail of the dragon' and then look for the 10:00 video by jasondd23, he is the one being filmed behind me.
