I am a bit confused....is deals gap a road or just a park or something?

If its a road then you can ride it whenever you please?

If its a park then when does it close and open?

Thanks, +1 for ignorance

No Prob, it is a comon question. The Dragon, or US HWY 129 is a public road, it passes through the Smoky Mountain National Forest. You can ride it any time you like, but the resort does have hours, so once we are closed their is limited support like gas and food after hours. But as long as you are aware of that you can plan and come up anytime and ride. The road has no side streets and only one paved pull off.

Their are several gravel pulloffs, only one paved one. If you do not mind gravel their are several good locations to pull over and take photos. Ok here is a question back, why on earth does everyone still go to FL to look for curves....just in case anyone is checking this thread.......THEIR IS NO CURVES IN FL.....STOP LOOKING ALREADY. Ok that is my public service announcement for the day.

There are quite a few good picture taking spots. I got some great action photos of riders draggin knees through the turns. Beyond the riders, there are quite a few other "touristy" kind of picture taking spots in the area. Fontana dam is where the Fugitive was filmed from what I was told. At any rate it's a pretty cool site. Too many scenic overlooks to name. I will say this. If you want meaningful pictures, go for quality over quantity. I got back from my trip and had a ton of pictures that I didn't know why I took.

Based on my observations LE isn't too heavy handed in the area. When they are in the deals gap area, word travels quickly. They will hook you up if you ae caught doing stupid crap.

i have no intentions on rubbing knees with any ground on my bike that is unless i'm sliding which i also have no plans on doing.

Anywhoot, I live in florida...trust me i wouldn't come HERE looking for twisties. I am from upstate NY and Eastern WV so that's what i miss the most :*(

The reason i asked about the police is because from the pictures i've seen and the videos that i've watched, it doesnt appear like they're doing 30...maybe i'm wrong

Many of the turns are so tight that if you average 30mph you are doing good.

Years ago NC's blanket, all purpose rural road limit was 55mph. I think the sign is gone now but there was one 55mph limit sign at the gap just at the border southbound from TN -LOL - had to be "cooking on the front burner" on that last little kinky summit bit just there to be anything like over the speed limit... That sign always made me grin...

Yeah they lowered the speed limit through there several years ago.

Brad & Twisty - I bought my current bike from a rider in S. FL how complained that S FL was the opposite of the gap - 11 curves in 318 miles.

Sad but more true than not! I hope to make a trip back up this summer!

Cool. I am sure their is plenty of side wall left on the tires, come on up and leave it in the gap :)
