View Full Version : Need you input folks !!! Important Contact Info
Guys and gals.
I have been contated by a local company that is trying to make thigs safer for all of us. Deb Maupin is the owner of a local company called Emergency Links Matter. ELM makes diferent variations of ICE kits that area available for many sports, not just motorcyclists.
We have discussed this in many other areas, but this is the first time I have seen something like this, for this application. Deb and I have already discussed the card under plastic sewn to the leathers, but this seems like a nicer package to deliver the info in. I was thinking about carrying them at the store, so how bout some feedback ??
Please take a minute or two to look over the site, and their offerings, and give me some feedback - good or bad - as to what you see, and how it could be better, if it even needs to be better.

Thanks in advance

I was just browsing the product web pages. I like the idea of the product and it could save valuable time.
I think this product is perfect for this area as there are a lot of out-of-town people visiting. If someone does crash and they are from out of town, it would be easier to use the ELM to obtain information about the person if they couldn't communicate.
The only problem is not everyone would purchase something like this. But if one person bought it, and it saved their life by using the information in the ELM, then I think it is worth the investment.

I really like the wristband. My only concern would be the types of information listed. If a wristband were to get lost, what information would the finder have? I guess in an age of identity theft I try and think through things a little more. I know that some medical information about myself would be wonderful due to me being allergic to many medications. I would be more likey to wear one of these as part of my gear than I would for a normal day of driving.
I keep this type of information on a card in my wallet.
Two good reasons for putting it in my wallet:
1. You don't have to remember to put it on. The armband is something you would have to put on each ride. I know I won't make it too far from home without my wallet.
2. If I ever crash with the dirtbag friends I have, I know the first thing they will do is go for my wallet.
The only problem with this is that most women do not carry wallets.

This is a great idea really. A few ideas for when you’re not on your bike though:
First, we are going to look for your wallet. This will have a legal ID, and usually has some other information we may find useful as well. Make it a point to have your wallet on you in some fashion if you were to be found unconscious. A jacket pocket works great. A tank bag may get tossed in the crash and we would not know to look for it.
Second, we look for a cell phone. Cell phones are the grand prize when trying to find anybody who knows you. Here is a tip: we do not know who John, bob, sally ect are, only you do. In your phonebook list Sally as “wife”, Bob as “Brother” and so on. This really speeds things up for us. This way we are not trying to harvest information from your realtor or you parole officer. And do you really want your ex-wife do decide if you should be a DNR? (Do Not Resuscitate):(
For those of you who are at the actual wreck PLEASE do not remove the helmet. Granted, there are a few exceptions, but we would rather that you just leave it in place and keep his neck from moving. If they are breathing, just keep them still until we can get there.
If the helmet has been removed, find it and give it to us when we get on scene. The helmet tells a whole story about the impact direction and velocity as well as other things. We would want that piece of info to take to the ER with us.
If you have been in a minor wreck and are walking wounded, stand up the road from the bike. On several occasions I have seen people really hurt when a rubbernecking driver was busy looking at the carnage and drove right into a crowd standing near by. They usually will not give more than a passing glance to a pedestrian. If you are up road from the wreck you will most likely go relatively unnoticed before they see the debris. Plus you can slow traffic before they get to a slick spot.
One last thing, I encourage all of my patients to write down their name, all of their current diagnoses, medications (with dosages) and known allergies, as well as their primary care physician on a 3 x 5 index card. Date the card and fold it and place it in your wallet. If you are ever in a wreck this one piece of paper can very well save your life.

By accessing the Florida Department of Highway Safety a Florida Resident may enter his/her Emergency Contact Information in a protected data base.
A description of the service follows, as copied from the State website,
https://www6.hsmv.state.fl.us/dlcheck/findcustomer
"This service will allow you to provide emergency contact information to law enforcement in the event of an emergency. This information may save crucial time if ever it becomes necessary to contact family members, or other loved ones. This service is only available to individuals holding a current Florida Driver License or Florida Identification Card. Your personal information in Florida motor vehicle and driver records is blocked in accordance with the Driver Privacy Protection Act."
Sounds great! Perhaps if we contacted our State Representative, more States would offer this great service.
Ride safe!
