Been planning a trip there in May. I have no intentions of over duing my limits, actually I plan on a nice pace that lets me enjoy all around me, but was thinking..... Do you forgoe the wave while on the dragon. I would think you should, but.... well you know. Never hurts to ask.

Consider the "Time and place" principle.
Here's an example of not concentrating on the road...

From the Gap a few weeks ago. Harley rider took his hands off the bars to wave at Killboy.
Ouch, hope he didn't need skin grafts...

Perhaps your first ride on one of the most technical roads in the USA is neither the "time" nor the "place".
There'll be plenty of time for pleasent conversation and meeting new friends at the Resort store or 'round the fire pit.

Plus, a good protective jacket is well worth the investment.

Wear your gear.

.

.

And that concludes today's sermon.
Amen

I have the gear. And those pics were exactly the point I was trying to make. Guess my original thought... use common sense approach will probably work best.

The old adage of look where you want to go applies here :) . Like others said 'depends' but I try to wave in certain places/circumstances BUT I don't ever take my eyes off my line. The faster riders never acknowledge because they're the faster riders but I'm slow and do see the surrounding view not just the white and yellow lines. Although some days particularly when riding with my K12 group, I couldn't tell you what the view looked like, just white and yellow lines is all I see.

To answer the original question.."Yes, you forgo waving on The Hill. You would go goofy trying to wave at everyone and it is also distracting to the approaching riders. Most riders look for signals of trouble ahead or the police only, anymore can be quite a distraction because it pulls their eyes off where they **should be** going. .
