My wife, Skidplate, has ridden down. We will be both coming down in July but she does not have much time to play on the computer because I keep her too busy cleaning the house and cooking pancakes.

Thank You for the Welcome.
This is a picture of our Bikes. Mine is the Red one. Sorry it wasn't taken at Deals Gap. Somehow we took lots of pictures of us standing at the sign. What were we thinking. :-) Can't wait to ride down again.

Hi Brad,
It would take me a looong time to want to ride somewhere else. I'd love to move there someday. We went home to Ohio via Blue Ridge Parkway...no words or pictures we took really describe it well.
I upgraded to a digital camera, maybe that will help.
Our weather here in the north may be getting warmer next week, we have our batteries all charged up now. getting ready.
bye have a great day

My husband and myself have been riding to Deal's gap every other year since 2000. He rides a Triumph Trident 900 and I ride a Ducati multistrada. Our favorite Triumph Bonneville has been ridden by me at the Gap previously-this year it is the Ducati. Be there the week of 4/24-27 after doing Barbers.

Hi Ma! Female rider for 8 years and about 60k miles total on 3 bikes. My latest is a Road King--a lounge chair on wheels. We're doing the Dragon Memorial Day week(end) and can't wait. If you're looking for beautiful vistas head to Mt. Washington in the White Mountains of New Hampshire... 6288 feet up in 8 miles of stone and dirt roads. Don't worry they won't let bikes up if conditions don't allow, but it is beautiful!!!!

If I moved to another state than PA I believe it would be NC. Between Ocracoke and the Outer Banks and the mountains it just never stops. Maggie Valley (Motorcycles through time) and Cherokee was very nice too. I knew about Deal's Gap and didn't realize how close my husband and I were a couple years back we just headed south looking for something to do and see. Came down 75 across the mountains into Chattanooga and then into Alabama. I don't remember the exact course we took but nothing in NC is boring that's for sure.

We've also gotten very wet on many of those trips through NC. We waited out a tornado under an old gas station's canopy in a town with a gas station, a police station and a fire house across the street. We also ran thru tropical storms and got caught in thunder storms atop the BRP with heavy fog and down pours where the rain was splashing off the roads up to chest level. Great fun!!! But I love it. You can't have NC's beauty without the rain!!!!

Hey Sandy,
Glad to hear from another women rider. I wonder what the count is now.
The weather has finally been nice enough to ride here in Oh, but
I can't wait to ride the dragon again, it will be sometime this summer for sure.
Hope you had a good ride last week.
Let me know, how was the weather etc......Post some pics too.
Have a great day.

Hey Roadrunner,
Nice to hear from you!
I agree NC would be my choice to live also.
We were lucky enough to have great weather while we were there last Sept.
I have heard how beautiful the mountains of New Hampshire are. It is definitley on our list of places to go.
Funny, My husband has been telling everyone that our Heritage's ride like Lounge chairs also, we have our packs on for the back rest and gel in our seats. :-)
Post some pics,
Have a great day.

Hi Harley Ma. Here are some pics from trips we've taken.

The first two are Mt. Washington pics taken from the road. I like the one because it looks like a ramp for a motorcycle. The other one shows the road (right edge of picture) to give you some perspective on distance and size. The road is not that good the entire way up--it's hard packed dirt and stone in many areas. It was 80 degrees at the bottom and 50 degrees at the top in heavy fog. We were the last ones allowed up for a while because of the fog. Another word of advice... don't stop! Keep car traffic a good distance ahead of you in case those cars have to stop because they can't get past each other on some of the sharp turns. Some of those tight curves are on very steep slopes and is difficult to start on dirt hills like those.

As you can see we didn't get the best weather for viewing the coast and the many beautiful features in the park. We went around twice in one afternoon to see what all we could with varying fog banks. We did this the same week we did Mt. Washington. The roads on both sides of Mt. Washington are absolutely gorgeous. The temps got only to about 80 degrees in the middle of July--I totally recommend it for a summer trip. A bit expensive though, most rooms were running $95 to $150 a night. Rt. 9 through Vermont and NH was picturesque but I didn't get any pictures of those small mountain towns--I will this year.

More pics... I can't seem to get these any larger for good viewing. Maybe my dpi is too much. I usually strap my digital and a disposable camera around my neck for pics on the fly. If I stopped for every picture I want to take we would never make any time or get anywhere.
This first pic is of the San Gabriel Mountains near Los Angeles, CA. This is where I decided I was going to learn to ride motorcycle (1992). The mountains go as high as 7000ft but the highest road is only about 6000 ft, much like Deal's Gap, but these are snow capped 3/4 of the year, but the roads are usually cleared very well even in February (people ski in teeshirts in Feb.). At the base of the mountain there is a sign that says, "Next gas station 50 miles". If you keep going after the facility it's a long way until the next gas station, so fill up. I couldn't find my picture of that facility but it looks so much like Deal's Gap with scores of brightly colored motorcycles and leathers to match. This road goes up and down, around 15mph curves with many pull-offs for allowing bikes to pass and vistas to absorb. You don't just look at these views you become part of them and take lots of deep breaths. Then you get to watch these guys leaning on their knees staying at some 50mph around these curves--it was awesome. The only real trouble are rock slides and the occassional wildlife (bears and cougars) trekking across the roadway. I totally recommend it and plan on returning once I retire. This road continues out to the Mohave desest and Devil's Punch Bowl which is along the Andreas Fault line.
The other picture is of the Susquehanna River in Lancaster County PA, down the street from where we live. 2005 was a great year for autumn leaves. This is a BIG motorcycle community here because of the back country roads along the Susquehanna and the other tributaries and hills in the area. Plus the York Harley Plant is just across the river a bit. Plus the Chesapeake Bay is less than 30 miles away too. The only problem is the roads aren't always conducive to radical motorcycle riding, unless you know the road and how to avoid the water shooting up from cracks in the road and the edges falling off into the woods. Ground waters play heck with road surfaces. This Pinnacle is about 200' above the water level. There were two bald eagles flying above us while we were here too (25 feet above).
If you have any ideas of new places to visit I'm curious of Ohio. We went to the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 and stopped at the Wright/Patterson Air Force Museum in 2004 but really have no idea what else to go see. Any places along the Ohio River interesting--good for motorcycles and seeing the countryside? We tend to stay away from tourist traps and try to find nice roads. How's OH for nice roads? We take about 4 trips a year and are looking for suggestions for a late September trip. Got any?

I am a female rider. Been riding for 12years. Starting on a Ninja 250 then Suzuki SV650. Then an Aprilia for a short time. For the past 3 years my ride has been a 2000 CBR F-4. Been coming up there from FL for about 9 years now. We usually rent a place for a week or 2 at a time. Sometimes bringing along friends. Hubby who rides a ZX-12 and I are going to trailer up and tour around the area for a couple of weeks Jun-17 thru July something or other. No real schedule or timetable. Just go where the road leads us.

I am a woman rider, riding for 4 years now, started on a Suzuki Savage, big single 650cc, and last year got an 1100 VSTAR Silverado which has been to Deals Gap three times now. I'd love to take the Savage there one day, I think that would be fun to do on a smaller bike.

I was there Memorial Day weekend, and overall I was disappointed at the few number of women riders that I saw on my whole trip. Still, numbers are increasing and I'm happy to be one in the rider's seat rather than pillion. I fall asleep on the back, LOL! And that has been on the back of a 1200 Sportster!

Nice to meet everyone.

Hi Everyone,
Nice to hear from you all. We were in the Gap around June 14 and are planning another trip back next month (hopefully weather permitting). I don't see many or any women riding Goldwings, especially in the Gap.... Very cool.
Hope to see you girls at the Gap.
