The wife & I just completed our 3rd trip to the Dragon. We rolled into the CPRofNJ today. There are NO, THAT'S RIGHT, NO good roads in this entire state. Even if there was a good one, it would be packed with NJ assholes so it would still suck. We stayed in Cherokee this time.

I have since replaced the POS Dunlop D204K's on my 2000 VFR with the new Continental Road Attack. I highly recommend them for anyone not needing a full on race tire. Turn-in & feedback are miles above the D204.

I would also like to give an overwhelming product endorsement to Condor Lift SC2000 motorcycle chocks. These things make loading & transporting a bike a simple one man operation. If you ever put your bike in a trailer or truck, these things are worth their weight in gold. http://www.condor-lift.com/

I got 6 runs in this time around. Kill Boy & Moonshine Photo were out that day so I should be able to get some great photo's. We would have made a few more runs but the wife decided to go down :( going North on turn #310 out of #318. If anyone was there on Tuesday, 26 Sep, my wife is the red-head riding the red 1989 Honda Hawk GT. She rides with her feet pointing out to the sides for some reason & has never drug any part of her or the bike on pavement before. Her toe started to drag on a 180d turn (if you look at the http://dealsgap.com/SubID1/dragon-ariel.htm it's the last really sharp turn before the lake about 1/4 of the page from the left the turn is going up & down on the photo) so she looked down to see what was going on. What do they tell you in MSF classes? You go exactly where you're looking. She looked down at her boot in a turn and proceeded to go right off the road into the ditch. I watched her look at her foot & knew she was going to crash. I was already at a full stop when she finally went down. Luckily, she was only going about 7mph when she went down & walked away with no worse for wear. In fact, she has only a small bruise (size of a quarter) & a broken finger nail. Thank you Joe Rocket & Tourmaster. The 89 Honda Hawk GT has a broken rear turn signal, bent rear brake pedal, scratched front fender, broken Givi windshield, scratched bar end & f'd up muffler. She was able to get the sticken Hawk back to the resort & then ride it 60 miles to Cherokee at the end of the day. Not counting paint, it should take less than $300 to get it road worthy and less than $1000 to get it back to pre crash status. www.moonshinephoto.com was at one of the curves and has bunch of pics of her coming back to the resort. She refuses to let me buy them. You can see from the pics that there really isn't that much damage.

On 27 Sep, I put in a 300 mile day that went thru the GSMNP into Gatlinburg & Pidgeon Forge. I did a full run of the Cherohala & made my way thru the JKNF to the resort. I made a round trip up the Dragon & wrapped up the day with the return to Cherokee via Rt28 & Rt19. I wish I had roads like that in NJ. As if I needed any further reason to love my bike, I returned almost 47mpg. VFR's are awesome.

One of these days, we'll make a trip down to NC where everything falls into place.

One thing that amazes me... As I browse thru this site & Killboy.com & Moonshinephoto.com one thing stands out... There are far too many people not wearing protective gear. I know from my own experience and from watching crashes happen right in front of me, if you wear good stuff, you're more likely than not going to walk away. Jeans & a t shirt are not going to pass muster if departure from controlled flight & impacting the terrain is imminent.

In this photo, my Wife & I are sporting over $2000 worth of riding gear. Exspensive? Absolutely... Worth it? Again, absolutely... The only time I'm not suited up to the max is when I run my bike around the block after I wash it. Ride safe everyone.:D

Ah yes a subject near to all of us here. As we are the local first aide station we probably patch up more road rash in any given day then most see in a life time. All from very minor drops that even a minimal amount of gear would have saved them alot of pain. The worst this year is a very attractive lady lost a finger by grionding it on the pavement, no gloves at all. This is the second loss of fingers I have seen here in 3 years, again no gloves. We probably go through $2000-$2500 in bandages, neo-sporin and iodine each year. So yes we would love to see everyone in gear as well, hate to see folks in that much pain wheh they can prevent it.

AMEN - my son went down on last week ( his second drop in 3 years). Got oil on his rear tire and the bike just slid out when he made a turn. Helmet has a little scratch and jacket has slight scratch, draggin jeans have no visible marks. HE has some soreness - don't want to think about what his head and shoulder would look like without the gear. I cringe when I see people here in Floride riding in tank tops and flip-flops. By the way if you take a spill and have a Shoei helmet, if you send it to them they will check it out. We did that after his first slip and they returned it saying he was still good to go!
