Hey gang, we are starting to rack up folks lauching themselves off of curve one. New pavement does not make this curve any less sharp or easier to get around. If fact seems to have made it harder. Some history on curve one.....it will kill you.....has claimed 1 in the last year and a half. Has also caused one air lift for a broken neck as well as a few broken bones. It is a strait drop off with trees or very big rocks to stop you. Please be carful......

Thanks

Yeah, if you want a reality check, Just walk up there and look whats off the bank. Then think about that the next time to start up the hill. It sure made me think twice about taking it fast what so ever.

where's curve one? the locals know. they are already aware of launching there (preaching to the choir) :) it's the non locals that don't know about it. and they don't know which curve is curve one. can you tell that i'm not local :)

What ever happend to warming up the tires, My son Russ and I always take it easy for the first mile or on the sport bikes, almost three on the motards;depending on the road temps. I am always surprised by the number of riders I see blast out of the store with some great show of speed, give them a minute or so head start and we catch them only a few miles down the road. Cold tires don't work, I have crashed a couple of times a little more than a mile from the store only because I did not let them warm up and pushed to hard. To be pushing hard and coming in hot on the first corner is just dumb

Yes, warming the tires is a must if you will be pushing any lean angles. I always shoot down 28 till about the bridge to get heat in my tires. It also helps get my head into the ride before I hit the real twisties.

This place is beautiful, peaceful, alluring, tempting and deadly serious...

I will not post the other pics out of respect for the rider that went down;
he asked me to take pictures of the crash but not to post his picture.

No soapbox here folks;
Just good sound advice from folks who care.

After seeing the way Brad and Dan and (many others) helped this guy that went down,
I know that they genuinely care about people
and work tirelessly to make sure that Deal’s Gap remains the absolute best place in America
to ride motorcycles!

and I believe it is!

You can ID the good riders and the local riders by sound... Easy steady throttle, NEVER a wheelie up the hill... and as often as not sitting up, totally out of throttle coasting coming downhill to the store...

That's turn one. The place where you can have 50 or more eye witnesses to your broken brain cable.

Thanks, But luckly I have not been off Turn 1. I have helped a few accidents there before though and those rocks scare me to death.

yep, the entire NC side has rocks like that att he bottom of every curve. This is where alot of the rock ended up from all the dam building from the 30-40's.
