Deals Gap "feature" in August 06 Rider Magazine:

"Be careful if you're planning on riding any of the popular motorcycling roads in Tennessee and North Carolina this summer. Operation Dragon 2006 is a combined effort by the two states' highway patrols to crack down on "unsafe" riding and driving, especially on weekends on U.S. 129, aka The Dragon, from Deal's Gap to Tabcat Bridge. North Carolina troopers will also be assigned to the Cherohala Skyway linking Robbinsville and Tellico Plains. Marked and unmarked cars, motorcycles and aircraft will all be used in the effort, which is expected to run through the fall. Many thanks to subscriber Jack Robinson of Tennesse for the tip."

Be careful out there..

The funny thing is they did it one time on the TN side and then nothing at all. TN has a much differnt approach this year on poling the Gap. I think it is a good one. Have not seen a presence, except one time, all year. They have been out of the gap until a call comes in for a accident then one car or bike from either blount county or TNHP hang out for a bit and then leave. We have found that works so much better for us and them. They will come out if things get crazy, which they should it can become way to dangerous for everyone when that happens.
