Ok, I just booked a room for October and I'm really stoked about the trip. I live in the "low country" of South Carolina and all the roads here are flat and pretty straight, so this will be an exciting change of scenery for my wife, my neighbors and me. My only concern is that I ride an '05 Softail Deluxe and the frame is really low to the ground. The few curves we do have around here usually mean I'm scraping the pavement, and I even popped the hose clamp that holds the exhaust guard on the pipes once while taking an inclined turn. Have any of you ridden any of the lower riding bikes on the Dragon, and if so, did you scrape a lot on the turns? I guess I'll just take it really easy the first time through, but my neighbor rides a higher BMW R1200 RT, so I hope I can keep up.
Also, my wife wants to know if we'll be up there in time for the fall color change (early October). I'm thinking we should be, but it's been years since I've lived anywhere with seasons other than summer and construction, so I'm not sure.

Ok, no prob on the questions, we tend to get them alot. As far as scraping alot, yes you will probably scrape some. Most bikes that are lower to the ground do scrape pegs and running boards. As far as keeping up with your buddy, you will not be able to and please do not try. That is how alot of folks crash here, trying to keep up with their friends. Just ride your ride at your pace within the limits of your bike and you will have a great time. The leaves here do not change until mid OCT, but that is just at the Gap, the skyway and blue ridge, both well with in range of here are in full change and are great then.
