How close is the 2 Wheel Inn to the Deals Gap Resort? I wanted to book a few nights at your motel but they were booked on that night, so I was wondering really what the next closest place (and cheapest) is to you guys.

U r close to a lot of things: deals gap, wheelers performance something, the skyways, town (robbinsville), and gas stations. The disadvantages are: you have a garage for your bike, you have lawn chairs, you are provided with rags to clean your bike, and the hospitality is great. I would have stayed their again, no questions asked, but everyone is staying in gatlinburg. The weekened I went up, easter, they had a fire out back where all the neighbors came over....sat around, shot the shit, and drank a few beers.

Recommended :)

Two-Wheels Inn is about 20 miles from here, not bad at all. The trip up from town has been recently paved and the curves are not tight. You are very close to the Skyway as well as Robbinsville, not sure if that is good or bad. But I have met the folks at 2 Wheels and they are very nice, I am sure you will have nothing but a first rate experience.

How far is Gaitlinburg from the gap? I see it on the map and with it being on the north side of the smokey mountains, it seems like you have to drive quite a ways to get so any of the more popular spots.

While searching for places to stay I came across Phillips Motel and made reservations because it was $50 per room per night, regardless of people. Plus it was right near all the other places to stay in Robbinsville. The only reservation I have is that I don't hear people talking about it. The more popular ones outside of your resort is fontana and Ironhorse. Being a first timer it would be fun to stay at a place where lots of people are, but at the same time, convenience and cost are a counteracting factor. I just hope I made the right choice.

Stay at 2 Wheel Inn instead of Gatlinburg, G-burg is a pain and unless you go through the National Park you will have to go through Pigeon Forge and Wears Valley, neither is a good ride. The Gap is more like an hour from Gatlinburg .

IMO If I had to rank in order...My first choice would be to stay at Fontana Village in a cabin or in the lodge. It is the closest and the easiest. Then I would consider 2 Wheel INN....I've stayed there too, and it is great, but is farther from the Gap and closer to the Skyway. They don't have has many rooms, and book up fast this time of year(kinda like the Gap campgound resort). Brand new rooms too.

I do not recommend Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge or Wears VAlley, the ride is not good especially in the heat now...

Robbinsville Micro-Tel is not a bad choice. No pool but very clean rooms, bike parking spots and a hose and bucket to clean your bike. They also provide drying rags. Keep in mind Robbinsville is in a dry county

Thanks for the reply everyone. Again my suspicion was verified by nobody talking about Phillips Motel. I ended up booking there because it was cheap and was close to microtel and 2 wheel inn. I don't plan on being at the motel much anyways :D .

TwistedCBR. For the record I'm heading up July 15th - 19th. Just look for the 3 Canadians. You can't miss em ;)

I can't help you with the NC side of the mountain, I'm not very familiar with it, but I would suggest Townsend. It's billed as "the peaceful side of the Smokies", translated cheaper. There are several hotels and such there and you just take the scenic ride on the Foothills Parkway to US 129. Lots less traffic problems than PF and Gatlinburg during tourist season too. Then if you want to go to PF just take Ware's Valley or to get to Gatlinburg ride up the river road through the park to Sugarlands (a very scenic and enjoyable ride seems like the temps drop about 20 degrees during the summer through there). Good Luck and have a safe trip.:D

The only thing I could find "wrong" with the Two-Wheel Inn was that the beds are a tad short for those of us who are over six feet tall, but you're really too exhausted to care. Being able to store your ride inside is a really great security blanket for those like myself who had never gone on an overnighter for many years. We'll stay there again next year.

The Kickstand Lodge, about 17 miles down 28 from the Deal's Gap Resort is a really great place to stay...they have a camping area, camp cabins and 2 full cabins, plus the nicest and cleanest bath-house I have ever been in. Prices are the same as Deal's Gap and the people are great...they cater to the bikers.

Never stay in Gatlinburg if visiting the Gap. I live in Sevier County and going Wears Valley or 73 through Sugarlands is awful. The traffic is very slow. Staying in Townsend would not be bad because you can head over the Foothills Parkway and be at the Dragon in no time. Just watch for Blount County Sheriff at the Top of the World. Being 25 to 30 minutes from the Dragon I don't know about staying on the NC side but I have heard from alot of people that Two Wheel Inn and the Kickstand Lodge are very nice.

Galtinburg is like the capital of cultural deprivation, and Pigeon Forge...

I agree I live here and avoid Gatlinburg at all costs:)

I live in Sevier County and I would not recommend Gatlinburg either. The quickest way there will probably actually take you about an hour with the way traffic is. I try ot to come that way because to me you can also go too slow in the curves. Although it is very pretty with alot of nice pull-offs.

Ummmm, maybe it's just me but it seems as if the ONLY reason Tn scout is on the forum is to advertise a competitors' motel. Maybe that's perfectly acceptable but it seems a bit out of place as I can't find anything else that has been contributed by this person. I have mentioned other motels in my posts but mainly as an alternative to the Resort at Deal's Gap if they are full. I posted something similar to that earlier today. All the other members' posts have been based on personel experience (as far as I can tell), were related to the thread at hand, AND in the spirit of helping out a fellow biker. AND they were not blatant advertisements for someone else's place of buisness:mad: .

Maybe Admin doesn't want to seem as if they are censoring posts here and are content to let this procede. After all, it's only been 3 posts so far. I certainly won't disagree with whatever their take is on this matter. After all, they provide a quality service with the Resort:D , they provide us with a webcam that makes us want to come back again and again and spend even more money there (I love this country!!! :D ), and they provide this space for us to discuss an area we all seem to enjoy:D . But to me, this is on the hairy-edge of being the dreaded SPAM. Who am I kidding? I think it is SPAM and that's it's totally inappropriate!

So people, what do YOU think????

Keith

Yes this is a interesting post. It is hard to determine between a post that wishes to inform the public of more great areas to ride I am not apposed to it. So in the spirit of keeping the forum clean yet helping folks do other things in the area, we are going to do is creat a seperate thread that folks can let everyone know about other location. We will limit it to non commercial type of posts, but we will let them post up links they found helpful for trip planning. This way we will be able to keep all of the other threads clean and still provide a area and service that will allow folks to plan other activities in the area.

IMHO, this is very gracious of you guys. I just get ticked off every time I open up my email and it's full of SPAM from LOWLIFE SPAMMERS trying every social engineering trick in the book to get you to open up an email that contains God-knows-what, from fake ED drugs to spyware that is trying to steal account numbers, and sometimes it even asks for them in the freakin' subject line!   Then I come here and someone is blatantly, IN-YOUR-FACE, and even reduntantly(LOL) promoting another motel/business/area without the first sign of contributing to this site in any other way. GRRRRRRR!!!!! The valium will kick in soon and I will be taken away to a happy, happy, place. AAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh........

RANT OVER AND THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY! :D BUT I AM STILL INTERESTED IN HEARING FROM OTHER SITE MEMBERS CONCERNING THIS.....

Yep, understand 100%. I have always thought it bad form to go on other folks sites and push your buisness on them. Looks cheap to me, but this guy is posting area web sites that may help folks find other places to go in East TN as well as Western NC. We do have a wonderful area to ride here. I think that being his only posts may be a little tactless but I think harmless. We created a spot for such things and will keep it to riders expressing their good experiences so other riders can benifit from them. Our main goal here is Deals Gap, but we also like the fact we can help riders plan a vacation in the entire area. Now back to the SPAMERS in your email....I am thinking that should be a capital offense myself......not sure why anyone would look at such crap myself. I have never gone to any site off of spam nor would I.

I understand the position you are in and I am certainly not opposed to anyone posting about the area outside of Graham Co, Eastern TN, etc., especially if it doesn't seem blatantly commericialized, but this just seemed like.....well, tasteless promotion. Possibly even innocent, although I highly doubt it. My opinion only. Thanks for letting me vent. Rant over :) And the special area to promote other good roads/areas is a great idea:D
