Another potential first-timer here... We will be in Pigeon Forge the week of 6-18 to the 23rd or 24th and are hoping to have time to ride the Dragon sometime during the week. Any suggestions would be appreciated. BTW, I have a Yamaha VStar 1100 Classic, so I won't be in it for speed. I have looked at a couple ways to get there from the PF/Gat area. What would be the best route? Hopefully the weather will cooperate, too. See you on the road... not on the Tree!!

Go to the southern most end of Gatlinburg, right onto 321 towards Cades Cove and Townsend..you will go by "The Sinks" and then come to "The Y", the road will branch and you go right into Townsend, sleepy little burg, go about 3 miles or so out of Townsend and turn left on Foothills Parkway ( all of this is a good ride), Follow Foothills Parkway for about 20 miles until it deadends on hwy 129, turn left and ride to your hearts content..easy to get there, easy ride, enjoy yourselves. Save room for a burger at the resort.

Thanks, I know the road you're talking about. We go to Cades Cove a lot, but I didn't know if that was the best route to the Gap. Someone told me to cross into Cherokee and come in from that side. While that would be a beautiful ride, it just seemed like the long way around. Thanks again.

Cherokee is a nice ride but it will be boring if you ask me, it will be very slow this time of year because of all the cars...also another quick route but less interesting is through Wears VAlley...best is to go through the National Park and right at The Y, a good ride all the way. Foothills Parkway has some nice pulloffs too and at the bottom you pop out at the lake in front of you, nice effect, turn left and get set for the twisties. When I hit that first set of curves on 129 my spirits just sky rocket :-)

In the future, you may even want to stay in Townsend instead of Gatlinburg. There is also the very popular Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort if you are lucky enough to get a room. Enjoy and be safe.
