Hi, folks. I'm Patrick. I'm from Hartwell, Ga. ......last county up I85 just before you get into SC. I have been riding to Deals Gap since the early 90's. I tend to make it up there about 15-20 times a year. It takes me 2 1/4 hrs to ride there. I love the whole area, especially 28. I can actually hop on US 28 in Anderson SC, which is 5 miles from here and ride it all the way to the Gap. I really appreciate what all the locals do for us there. The folks at the store who run the Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort , Zee and all the others who lend a hand to make that area prettier and safer to ride in. hope to meet a few of you guys from time to time and perhaps ride as well. I normally hang out on www.supersportbike.org where we are a small close knit family. I currently ride an 05 SV1000S and a 03 Xr650L which I hope to outfit with some MOTARD impliments soon. I also run my 02 WS7 Ram Air Trans AM up at the Gap as well as at the local 1/4 mile in Commerce. Hope to here from some of yall...It's really a small wold out there. My last visit to the Gap was 5/29/06, the weather was great and traffic was really low. There was ZERO leos in force and I had a blast. Peaceout YO!

Patrick welcome to the site, all of what you say is so true about the Dragon and the people that make it all come together to make it what it is.

I also had a XR 650 before I got my ktm 520, I got one of the kit that came with the moto tires and the on and off road tires. by the time I looked into to making my Honda into a super moto it was just as cheap to sell the bike and buy the ktm. it is also about 60 pounds lighter.

anyway welcome to the site and hope to see you on the dragon some day..Bob

Welcome to the asylum Patrick.

Plasticweld is right too, don't convert the 650L to SM, will be money thrown away, I went to that trouble and expense a few years ago on a 650L and it was money wasted, you will tire of the L quickly , heavy, down on HP, old technology, air cooled, motor won't stand up to that type of abuse, . Sell it and buy a used KTM SM..
