Where is Wayah Road???

According to Microsoft's Virtual Earth, if you follow 129 from Deals Gap down to hwy 74, It's a backroad to Franklin. Never been on it but it looks interesting. Check it out and give us a ride report.

Wayah Road is a beautiful ride. The only thing that we have ever run into on the road is that there always seems to be gravel in the curves, no matter what time of the year. If i can remember correctly you turn leftt off of Highway 64 about 12 miles West of Franklin. I believe that there is a sign for LBJ Job Corps to mark the road.

This is one of my favorite roads, it is the only road I have ridden on with what I would call real switch backs, gravel has always been a problem on the road, in the areas I ride it is quite common so I have never been bothered by it. a couple of things will keep you safe.

save enough of your self coming into the corners so you can still change you line, there is always a wheel track of clean pavement there; it is up to you to be able to put your bike where you want. a good rule of thumb on that road is to enter the corner 10 percent slower than you think and try to exit it 10 percent faster than normal you will find that your overall speed is quicker and you will have much more control and is always great practice

Target fixation is real, you always go where you look, look for the clean spots not at the gravel. look through the corner and pick your line, on a road as technical this one you can not hope to just magically end up in the right spot in the corner.

While I have seen my share of riders go down on this road all of them were very low speed get offs, most of the time the damage was minor and the rider was not hurt, it is a great road:D

Maybe you need to come to NC and open a riding school...though that may hurt your body work stuff lol

we will b in around 7-8pm on the 28th, if were not too tired we might get a ride in before dark. we will be the pokey trio (first timers) on Hondas: me on a Rc-51, the hubby rides a VFR, and our buddy is on a 954. Have a safe trip... your lucky to be headin out when you are, cuz I hear the weather might get ugly
